Course description: In this course, attention is given to developing conversational competence in Russian as a foreign language and cultural sophistication. You will expand your vocabulary and develop your reading and listening comprehension by watching Russian films and theater performances as well as reading short stories, and the dramatic works of world-famous Russian-speaking authors, such as Anton Chekhov and Chingyz Aitmatov. You will master your public speaking and expressive reading skills and be able to distinguish and reproduce various types of Russian intonation, complete writing and oral assignments including the preparation and delivery of short presentations. You will practice description, narration and super-level functions such as arguing, advising, and hypothesizing. This course will help you to overcome the language barrier and to cooperate effectively in Russian. This language course is also aimed at developing your creativity, but does not require any previous acting or theater experience.
